The University of Oregon Graduate Biosciences Career Development Program prepares bioscience PhD graduates, postdocs, and trainees for diverse careers inside and outside academia.
The Program offers courses, seminars, individualized counseling, and workshops to equip students with essential job-seeking skills.
Careers in Biosciences Course
This annual course features Voice-of-Experience panels of professionals who share insights into their career paths, helping students understand the breadth of opportunities available. Market sectors include therapeutics, diagnostics, consumer product goods, agriculture, academia, and research. Types of organizations include for-profit and non-profit companies, government, consultants, and media. Roles span research and development, sales and marketing, and much more.
Professional And Technical Workshops
Program workshops focus on essential job-seeking skills such as resume building, cover letter writing, interviewing, and more. Technical skills workshops include microscopy, imaging, and flow cytometry, ensuring students are well-prepared for the competitive job market.
Career Exploration Speaker Series
Through in-depth discussions, professionals share their career journeys and current roles, offering students real-world perspectives and practical advice.
Individual Career Counselling
Individual career counselling helps trainees prepare for their next steps in a personalized manner - one that fits their skills, background, needs, and goals.
Internships
Internships help students get the most relevant job experience of all - training at local companies in the biotech space. Students have interned with Thermo Fisher locally in Eugene, and have built powerful networks and skills. Internships are arranged on a case-by-case basis.
